“What is the resistance?” Trence asked.
“It is a game b movement.” Mentor replied.
“What is game b?”
“Game b is what happens next. If the status quo is game a, then game b is what comes after. The movement is formed on the principles of being self-organising, network-oriented, decentralised, emerging, and oriented towards human flourishing. It looks to build on what works to address what doesn’t.”
“And how do you do that?” Trence asked.
“Good question, Trence,” Mentor replied calmly. “One way is to build and maintain hope.”
“By shooting sentinels and assassinating elites?”
“Yes, we do what we can to reduce that which stifles or snuffs out hope. Sabotage of unjustified and brutal activities is certainly one method. We also educate in the ways of old. It is all done in a manner that doesn’t cause overreach. It takes surgical precision. We step out too far and the repercussions are severe. Do too little and people continue to lack the willingness to try, to do something different, to innovate, to grow, to strive for something better, to support each other and to stand-up to those that seek to abuse or destroy.”
“For what ends?”
“To get somewhere better than where we are now. It isn’t our desire to destabilise or destroy that which is productive and aids in building and maintaining hope. Taking out an authoritarian regime just leaves a void for another to fill. No, we want to bring people back together, not turn them further away from one another.”
“And building hope achieves that?”
“We think so. One of the major challenges we face is people disappearing. Losing contact with people you care about, has the potential to snuff out hope. The sentinels are fast and efficient. If someone gets compromised or puts a foot wrong, they simply disappear. There is no defence or opportunity to make amends for one’s mistakes. A word is given from on high and they are picked up and disposed of. Even as a level seven observer I have little say in that. Trafficking is also particularly good at destroying hope. Obviously for those that are the subject of the trafficking. It is also hard on those that get drawn in. Staff, security, pilots, and the like. Most don’t know what they are involved in, until it is too late. Once in, it is hard to get out.”
